FSBA Bioenergetic Analysis
Certification Training Program

This comprehensive training program is for practitioners in all psychotherapy and healing professions! During the course of the program, you will learn techniques and processes to help your clients and patients free their bodies and reclaim their life energy. This is an opportunity to reach a deeper awareness of the relationship between psychology and physical expressions of energy such as breathing, movement, feelings, and voice.

Bioenergetics is a powerful body-oriented, psycho-therapeutic approach to understanding and resolving inner conflicts, gaining increased energy, and living a fuller, more vibrant life. It was created by the late Alexander Lowen, M.D. and is based on the work of Wilhelm Reich. The FSBA program began in 1979, and over one hundred people have graduated since its inceptionBy working with the mind AND body, students experience how Bioenergetic therapy can produce powerful, lasting change in service of their lives and the lives of others
Over the course of their training, students develop a deep appreciation for the unity of the mind and body. They explore how the body develops muscular “armoring” to meet challenges in different life stages, and how that armoring can create repetitive patterns and unrealized limits in later life. Trainees experience how psychological issues affect the body by causing muscular tensions that block energy and limit emotional expression. Teaching methods are experiential, didactic, and individual study.

FSBA Faculty

The FSBA training program leaders are exceptional therapists and inspiring teachers. Each faculty member has taught Bioenergetics for many years and regularly conducts international training workshops in Bioenergetics. They also have full-time private practices, lead personal growth retreats, and several have founded Bioenergetics training institutes in their countries. Faculty members also have extensive experience in executive coaching.

About Our Four-Year Program

Emphasis in the pre-clinical phase is on the trainee mastering the fundamental contributions of Alexander Lowen and Wilhelm Reich. Reich’s concepts of body armoring and character analysis are essential to this program. Having been a disciple of Sigmund Freud, his use of the body in psychotherapy is highlighted.
Alexander Lowen’s evolution over a fifty-year period, his developing and practicing of Bioenergetic Analysis, are covered in depth for the trainee. This helps to establish proficiency in working with both the body and mind.
Personal growth, Bioenergetic exercises, Bioenergetic interventions, Bioenergetic character analysis, and Bioenergetic group process are all emphasized in this phase.
The clinical phase emphasizes the Bioenergetic therapy process. This includes leading and receiving Bioenergetic sessions during the training, while receiving supervision on the trainee’s skill level.
The training program provides the trainees extensive exposure to many excellent workshop leaders in a highly, supportive, caring environment.
The advanced studies are for those already certified by FSBA. They focus on supervision and advanced training for those who want to further develop and refine their bioenergetics skills.
Advanced studies activities, such as assisting workshop leaders and mentoring, will be available throughout the year. Trainees that are already certified can get involved in these activities. These will include specific guidance from international trainers, who are at the site leading the pre-clinical and clinical workshops, as well as peer supervision.
About the Program
FSBA’s training teaches the student in an in-depth way about the energetic viewpoint of psychological and physical dynamics, and their interrelationship.

This also encompasses the functional identity between mind and body, and the role of the body in the psychotherapeutic process.
Goals of the Program
The goal FSBA’s training program is to give trainees the opportunity to master the fundamentals of Bioenergetic psychotherapy as pioneered by Dr. Alexander Lowen. This allows each trainee to then create their own, unique signature of working the body and working psychology.

The training is dedicated to the premise of the underlying unity of the mind and body, as it reflects our personality and our unconscious. And furthermore, that strong transformation is rooted in working with the body in the psychotherapy process.
Curriculum & Methods
The curriculum includes: the history of the energetic concept, basic bioenergetic principles, reading the body, techniques for mobilizing energy and expressing feelings, and understanding the developmental process in relation to character structure.

Teaching methods will be experiential, didactic, and individual study.

Deep Work and Supervision for Trainees and Graduates

In addition to the FSBA Bioenergetic Training Program, our wonderful international faculty periodically provides opportunities for trainees and graduates to participate in small-group bioenergetic work. Participants will choose whether their focus is to receive sessions, or be supervised giving sessions. These events allow for participants to go deeper in their own personal work, and also supplement their supervision-hours requirements for training.
