About Bioenergetic Workshops
Bioenergetic Analysis offers effective tools in our therapy endeavors to work with and resolve our conflicts and to connect to our Authentic Self. By exploring our mind-body split, we are able to contact and to express our deepest emotions, fears and wishes in a powerful manner. This process is deepened through the presence of a safe, respectful and supportive group, united in the pursuit of greater joy and peace in living. Through our willingness to explore ourselves and to experience our vulnerability, we grow stronger.
Our workshops, offered to both mental health professionals and individuals interested in Bioenergetics, will focus on the physical dynamics of a person's personality struggles, character structure and frustrations in living. Bioenergetic Analysis offers an additional approach to verbal psychotherapy and psychodynamic science with which to understand and treat emotional problems. When woven together with psychodynamic intervention and analysis, greater opportunity exists to be of help to others in their quest for self understanding, freedom, and in their capacity for joy and contentment.
Bioenergetic Analysis was pioneered by Dr. Alexander Lowen in the late 1950's. It represents his personal understanding and development of Wilhelm Reich's unique contribution to psychoanalytic theory and technique including character analysis and physical interventions. Reich included the body as a part of the treatment process in his further development of Freud's energetic concepts. Reich viewed internal conflict, narcissism, lack of self hood, and impulsivity, as examples of conditions of health and dysfunction expressing themselves in our somatic functioning. Chronic muscular tensions, poor breathing patterns, and fixed overall attitudes of holding lead to reduced capacity to surrender to feelings, and life. Reich and Lowen’s expansion of Freud’s energetic point of view offers new ways of understanding psychotherapy treatment.
