Honoring the Body
The candid, highly-opinionated, revealing self-told story of an internationally acclaimed psychiatrist and innovator in the field of psychotherapy. Told with genuineness and exceptional candor, Dr. Lowen shares his journey of creating Bioenergetic Analysis.
"If you have the willingness to accept the realities of life, you will live longer. It has allowed me to reach 93 years of age. I was raised to value the mind and intellect, not the body. Favoring the life of the mind went against my nature. Healing the splits between my mind and my body has been my life's challenge. In the sixty years that I have practiced psychotherapy, I have learned that the pathway to emotional health is through the body. The underlying purpose of Bioenergetic Analysis has always been to heal the mind-body split." |
Bioenergetics
Bioenergetics is a dynamic form of therapy based on the teachings of Wilhelm Reich. It links physical pain, muscle tension, and postural disorders with state of mind, demonstrating that suppressed emotions, unhappiness, and anger can block energy flow and cause physical distress. Dr. Alexander Lowen, founder and prime mover of this revolutionary therapy, analyzes common complaints like headaches and lower back pain and shows how they can be overcome by releasing the muscular tension that creates them. Through bioenergetic exercises, physical pain can be dissolved and emotion released, leading to a new sense of confidence and well-being. Illustrated by many helpful diagrams, this fascinating book is the right step to a happier, healthier life for thousands of men and women. 343 pages. |
Joy
Alexander Lowen, famous student of Wilhelm Reich and founder of Bioenergetics, reveals in this book how to reclaim a natural, childlike state of joy through exercises that revive the body's vitality and liberate the energy of suppressed feelings. Using examples from four decades of clinical practice, Lowen shows how painful emotional experiences-from sexual abuse and fear of dying to the anger and heartbreak all human beings experience in life-are manifested in bodily symptoms. He then instructs readers how to listen for and answer the unique signals in the body that serve as internal cries for freedom. The vibrant health that results has a wide range of holistic benefits for the total being, including enhanced sexual pleasure and heightened spirituality. Joy, the culmination of Lowen's life work, is a wonderfully hopeful and transformational guide from one of the pioneers of body/mind therapy. 330 Pages. |
Fear of Life
Are you torn by fear of: love and being loved, letting go, sexual fulfillment, uncertainty, being yourself, failing, death and dying? Dr. Alexander Lowen, world-famous psychoanalyst, will show you how to resolve those fears without changing the characteristics that make you the unique human being you are. Through self-acceptance, self-possession, and self-expression you'll learn how to achieve a harmony between your inner and outer worlds that will lead you to a far richer, happier, and healthier life. Go beyond fear-to freedom! |
The Way to Vibrant Health
The body work of bioenergetics includes both manipulative procedures and special exercises. The exercises are designed to help a person get in touch with his tensions and release them through appropriate movement. The manipulative procedures consist of massage, controlled pressure, and gentle touching to relax contracted muscles. It is important to know that every contracted muscle is blocking some movement.
